Minister K.N. Balagopal inaugurates the development seminar

A seminar organized for the formulation of a comprehensive development plan for Kottarakkara constituency in Kollam district was inaugurated by State Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal. The review meeting put forward a vision to undertake various projects with emphasis on soil, air and water conservation activities. In the first phase, interventions will be made in areas such as rejuvenation of streams and ponds, soil and water conservation, environmental restoration, agriculture and allied activities. At least one agricultural pond in a panchayat is targeted in the comprehensive plan. 27 projects have already been listed in eight LSGs for water harvesting. The water storage capacity of inactive quarries will be utilized for irrigation. The Net Zero Carbon Kerala project started in Karipra Panchayat will be extended to other local self-government bodies in the constituency. At least one green space per ward will be ensured. An action plan will be undertaken to make all the local bodies in the constituency fallow-free. Public institutions will be made green institutions.
