Chief Minister to inaugurate National Environmental Summit on February 23
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: To deliberate on a decade of ecological restoration initiatives across the State, the Harithakeralam Mission is convening a National Environmental Summit from February 23 to 25. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the three-day summit at the Uday Palace Convention Centre, Kowdiar, at 12 p.m. on February 23.
The conclave will bring together a diverse cohort of participants, including Cabinet Ministers, elected representatives, national environmental experts, researchers, students, and media professionals. The academic core of the summit consists of 18 technical sessions held across two parallel venues, featuring 73 paper presentations. Key focus areas include waste management, water security, sustainable agriculture, and the ‘Net Zero Carbon Kerala’ roadmap. Expert panels will also address critical themes such as climate change, green transport, the impact of Pachathuruthu (semi natural mini forests), and human-wildlife conflict.
A significant highlight of the event is a public exhibition on ecological restoration, featuring over 60 specialized stalls starting from February 23. Entry to the exhibition will be free for the general public. The summit will also facilitate a convergence of various project beneficiaries to share their grassroots experiences.
Dr. T.N. Seema, State Coordinator of Navakeralam Karma Padhathi and Vice-Chairperson of Haritha Keralam Mission, stated that the insights and perspectives emerging from the national summit would be consolidated into a comprehensive set of recommendations. These will be submitted to the State Government to guide the future trajectory of ecological restoration in Kerala.
