Chief Minister Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan to inaugurate the state-level launch of

The Chief Minister of Kerala Shri Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the state-level launch of the "Zero Waste New Kerala" public campaign on October 2, 2024 (Wednesday). This campaign is organized by the state government with the aim of achieving a clean and sustainable Kerala.

The inauguration will take place at 11 AM at the LIC Grounds in Kottrakkara on Gandhi Jayanti day. Minister Shri K. N. Balagopal will preside over the function. Ministers Shri M. B. Rajesh, Shri K. B. Ganesh Kumar, and Smt. V. Chinchurani will also participate. The Chief Minister will also announce the revival of the Pulaman water stream project as part of the campaign.

Opposition Leader Shri V. D. Satheesan will be the chief guest, while shri. Kodikkunnil Suresh MP will deliver the keynote address. Chief Secretary Sharada Muraleedharan, IAS, will distribute certificates to green institutions. The Nava Keralam Karmma Padhathi State Coordinator Dr. T. N. Seema will present the report on the campaign.

Starting on October 2 and continuing until March 30, 2025, in line with International Zero Waste Day, the campaign aims to make Kerala completely waste-free. On October 2, 1,601 activities will be inaugurated at various local self-government institutions across the state. Announcements will also be made regarding the completion of cleaning activities in 203 locations and the conversion of six tourism centres into green tourism centres, with plans to convert 26 more tourism centres into green initiatives.

All schools in 160 local self-governing bodies will be declared green schools on October 2. Additionally, 22 colleges will be declared green colleges. Announcements regarding the transformation of most offices, banks, and office complexes into green institutions across 150 local self-governing bodies will also take place. Various 257 related activities under waste management will also be inaugurated.

The campaign will be coordinated by various agencies and departments, including the Haritha Keralam Mission, Clean Kerala Company, Kudumbashree Mission, Kerala Solid Waste Management Project, and State Pollution Control Board. This six-month public campaign aims to engage all sections of society and people, as informed by the NavaKeralam Karma Padhathi State Coordinator Dr. T. N. Seema.

Key officials participating in the event include Smt T. V. Anupama, IAS, Secretary of Local Self-Government, Sri P. K. Gopan, President of the Kollam District Panchayat, Principal Director of Local Self-Government Shri Seeram Sombashivarao, Director of the Kerala Solid Waste Management Project Smt. Divya S. Aiyar, IAS, and various other representatives, including local leaders and community members. Kotrarakkara Municipal Chairman Sri. S. R. Ramesh will deliver the welcome speecha and Navakeralam Karma Padhathi Kollam District Coordinator Shri S. Issac will extend thanks note.
