Chief Minister to inaugurate the rejuvenated Kanampuzha project Phase I

The first phase of the Kannur Kanampuzha revival Project, the state's most successful river revitalization project, will be dedicated to the nation by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 26, 2024. The Kanampuzha Revival Project Review Meeting held at the Kannur Haritha Keralam Mission Office under the chairmanship of Archaeology, Museum and Registration Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally decided to organize a number of extensive activities as part of the inauguration program. Kanampuzha Revival Project Committee Convener N. Chandran presented the draft document in the meeting. Nava Kerala Action Plan Asst. Coordinator T.P. Sudhakaran presented the report.

The meeting made elaborate preparations to hold the inauguration of Kanampuzha's restoration as a public festival. The joint efforts of the Revival Committee, Haritha Keralam Mission, Irrigation Department and various other departments to revive the Kanampuzha River, which starts from Ayyappan Hill in Munderi Panchayat and joins the Arabian Sea, are bearing fruit.

A public seminar on the activities and follow-up activities related to the revival of Kanampuzha will be held at Chovva Bank Hall. A Kanampuzha photo exhibition will also be organized as an associated program on December 24, 25 and 26.

The section from Chovva Bridge to Thilannoor Shishu Mandiram Road was completed in the first phase. The silt and waste in the river were removed, a granite side wall was constructed, and water channels were constructed for irrigation purposes in the paddy fields. A footpath was constructed on both sides of the river, a coir geotextile was spread and street lights were installed. With the implementation of the work, irrigation facilities for the paddy fields of Elayavoor and Periyagala increased and agricultural development was achieved. In addition, the beauty of Kanampuzha was restored, a footpath was constructed to facilitate public walking, and solar lights were installed.
