From October 2, Gandhi Jayanti Day, to March 30, 2025, extensive sanitation and waste management programs are being organized with massive public participation with the aim of a completely garbage-free Kerala. government agencies and institutions will coordinate the activities. Local self-government bodies will provide leadership by ensuring people's participation. The Chief Minister inaugurated the  Kottarakkara Development programme and announced the revival of Pulaman stream.

The Chief Minister said that the cooperation of all sectors of the society is needed to make the state completely garbage free by adopting new habits and methods in waste disposal. Awareness about the impact of polluting public places needs to be increased among the public. The increasing urban population density in the state is also posing a big challenge in waste disposal. Accumulation of garbage can lead to air and water pollution in the respective area. This leads to lack of hygienic food, pure air and clear water. In this situation, dumping of waste in public places is a challenge for healthy living. Waste disposal in water bodies can cause major environmental problems. There should be measures to segregate organic and inorganic wastes at source. Keeping this fact in mind, extensive cleaning programs are being implemented with the participation of the public, various organizations and local self government bodies. The campaign will start on Gandhi Jayanti and continue on March 30 next year (2025) on International Zero Waste Day.
