The face of tourist destinations in the state is changing with the popular people's campaign for a garbage-free new Kerala. On this Keralappiravi Day, 68 tourist centres are preparing in the state to set an example of cleanliness and beauty for the tourists. The68 tourist centres selected from the local self-government bodies of the state will be declared as green tourism centres on November 1,2024.
A special team led by Haritha Keralam Mission, Shuchitwa Mission, Local Self-Government Department etc. visited the place and selected the green tourism centres by considering hygiene standards like waste management, implementation of ban on single-use plastic items, preparation of alternative products/systems and clean toilet systems.
Vatika (Kotta Maidanam, Palakkad), Atavi Eco Tourism Centre Pathanamthitta, Nilambur Teak Museum, Karapuzha Dam Wayanad, Loknarkav Temple Kozhikode, Vijaya Beach Park Alappuzha, Panyeliporu Ernakulam, Calvary Mount Idukki, Jabbarkadav Kannur, Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple, Bekal fort Kasargod etc. are included in the 68 Tourist centers to be declared as green tourism centres in the first phase.
Just like places like houses, offices, institutions and public places, tourist centres are places that need special consideration in waste management. Most of our tourist destinations are ecologically, culturally and historically important areas. The campaign aims to make these centres clean and also preserve the place as completely green tourism destinations.
