Minister V.N. Vasavan said that water quality testing labs in schools can be helped to prevent water-borne diseases. The Minister was speaking at Kumarakam Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at the district level inauguration of the water quality testing lab to be set up in higher secondary schools of Kottayam district with the help of the Haritha Keralam Mission and Rebuild Kerala Initiative. The minister said that the project is being implemented by providing additional facilities in the schools of the district and providing adequate training to the students and teachers. The minister also distributed green certificate to Kanjirapalli Mary Queens Hospital in the function. District Panchayat President K.V. Bindu presided. Navkeralam Karma Padhathi State Coordinator Dr. T.N. Seema delivered the keynote address. Grama Panchayat President Dhanya Sabu, District Panchayat member P.R. Anupama, Block Panchayat Member Meghala Joseph, Kumarakam Gram Panchayat Standing Committee President P.I. Abraham, Vidyakiranam Coordinator P. Prasad, G.V.H.S. Principal P.X. Beatrice Maria, V.H.S.E. Principal M.S. Bijeesh, Headmistress P.M. Sunita, P.T.A. President V.S. Sugesh also spoke. Water quality testing labs have been started in the Haritha Kerala Mission in Higher Secondary Schools to test and determine the quality of well water mainly for drinking water in the state. 70 water quality testing labs are being established in various higher secondary schools of the district. The process of setting up 30 labs in the first phase has been completed.
