Neelakurinji biodiversity study camp: Learned by learning nature

It was a unique experience for the students participated in the
Neelakurinji Biodiversity Learning Festival organized by Haritha Kerala Mission. The programme gained attention by imparting new knowledge and experiences to the students. 59 students from 14 districts participated in the three-day camp which started at Adimali Neelakurinji Biodiversity Knowledge Center on the morning of 26th May in connection with World Biodiversity Day. The study camp was organized at Adimali and Munnar in Idukki district.

Various sections for children led by environmentalists on nature-friendly painting, awareness about biodiversity and the importance of its conservation, field visits to places like Iravikulam National Park, Munnar Lachmi Estate, group discussions, art programs etc. made the learning festival perfect. Haritha Kerala Mission distributed certificates to the students who participated in the study festival and announced them as state level student Green Ambassadors. On the concluding day of the camp, environmental activist Dr. Jomi Augustine conducted a class on environmental protection for the students. The camp was attended by the winners of district level quiz competitions organized for school students under the leadership of Haritha Keralam Mission.

The quiz competition was organized on the topics of the environment and biodiversity. The district level quiz competition was organized in the district centers with the participation of 629 children who were the winners of the competition out of the 9000 participants at the block-corporation level.

Environmental Researcher Dr. Sujith V Gopalan, Alan, Adarsh, Ajay, Navakeralam Karmapaddhathi Assistant Coordinator TP Sudhakaran, Program Officer Satheesh RV, Haritha Keralam Mission Project Coordinator Liji Mary George, Programme Associate Karthika S, Jishnu M, District Coordinators, Haritha Keralam Mission Young Professionals and others led the learning festival.
