Let's plant a sapling…

Tree planting campaign of Haritha Keralam Mission to begin on World Environment Day.


The grassroots tree planting campaign led by the Haritha Keralam Mission, which will plant one crore tree saplings in the state, will be launched on June 5, World Environment Day. The state-level inauguration of the program will be held at the Cliff House campus, the official residence of the Chief Minister, in Thiruvananthapuram by Chief Minister Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan. The function is scheduled  at 3.30 pm.  Dr. T.N. Seema, State Coordinator of Navakeralam Karma Padhathi and Chairperson of Haritha Keralam Mission,  peoples representatives, officials, etc. will participate. The  campaign will be held till September 30 with the aim of expanding the Pachathuruthu project implemented by the Haritha Keralam Mission  to more places and also with the aim of comprehensive tree plantation. The campaign will pay special attention to planting saplings of rare and endangered trees. The saplings planted at Cliff House on June 05 include Kulamavu, Arupunna, Undapine, Kampakam, and Ponnunjaval. Ministers, MLAs, MPs, prominent figures in the socio-cultural field, and public representatives will participate in the district-level program to be held at various district centers.


The campaign is being organized with the participation of all sections of the population, including students, Kudumbashree workers, employment-guaranteed workers, Harithakarmasena members, employees, residents' associations, places of worship, libraries, socio-political organizations, etc., said Haritha Keralam Mission Vice Chairperson Dr. T.N. Seema. Saplings for planting will be collected locally. In addition to the saplings collected from various departments, institutions, and voluntary organizations, saplings will also be collected from the general public through grama panchayats. In addition, saplings collected by school students will be collected through the 'Changathikkoru Thai' campaign.


To ensure the maintenance of the saplings planted, a management committee will be formed under the leadership of the chairpersons of the local self-government institutions, the Haritha Keralam Mission, Biodiversity Management Committee members (BMC), environmentalists, agriculture officers and farmers.Sapling exchange and tree planting activities will be organized in all educational institutions within the limits of the local self-government institutions including colleges, polytechnics, ITIs, Anganwadis and others from June 24, 2025. Along with the planting campaign and sapling exchange, the collection of species-wise data on the saplings planted and transferred will also be carried out.  Sapling planting will also be organized at the homes of Kudumbashree members, employment-guaranteed workers and Haritha Karma Sena members.
