The three-day National Environment Seminar organised under the leadership of the Haritha Keralam Mission concluded on an enthusiastic note at the Uday Palace Convention Centre, Kowdiar, on Tuesday.
The valedictory session was inaugurated by Dr. K Raviraman, Member, State Planning Board, who said that Kerala’s “Nava Kerala” model — where environmental protection and development go hand in hand — has emerged as a guiding framework for the country. As part of the seminar, a comprehensive Environmental Policy Framework was announced, consolidating actionable recommendations that emerged from various technical sessions and panel discussions. The conference declared that these recommendations would be aligned with the State’s future environmental restoration initiatives and would guide eco-friendly development policies.
The policy framework draws upon key ideas presented in 73 papers across 18 sessions held in two parallel venues. The sessions covered themes including sanitation, waste management, climate change, agriculture, and the goal of Net Zero Carbon Kerala.

The valedictory meeting was presided over by Dr. T. N. Seema, State Coordinator, Nava Kerala Karma Padhathi. Dr. R. Ajayakumar Varma, former scientist of the National Centre for Earth Science Studies, presented a report outlining future action possibilities. Aditya Varghese SEEDS India, Vikas Nimesh Assistant Professor IIT Delhi, Administrative Officer Ms. Indu S, Asst. coordinator of Haritha Keralam mission Ms. Haripriya Devi were participated in the event.
A special session
titled “Youth for Tomorrow’s Environment” drew attention with the
participation of global young environmental activists, including
Licypriya Kangujam, Ridhima Pandey, and Prasiddhi Singh. An exhibition
pavilion featuring Kannur’s Kanampuzha rice and immersive VR
presentations also added vibrancy to the event.
The seminar concluded
with a call to preserve and carry forward the success stories of
Kerala’s environmental restoration efforts over the past decade for the
benefit of future generations.
