Participate in the River rejuvenation process
Rivers are the cradles of our great civilizations. They are the lifeline of our culture and heritage. The State of Kerala with high rainfalls, chains of backwaters, rivers, reservoirs, lakes, ponds, springs, wells etc, is considered as the ‘abode of water’. Our heritage, cultural and tradition flourished with the flows of Bharatha Puzha and Pampa. ‘Njattuvela’, our agriculture almanack is intricately linked with the onset of monsoon and the resultant water abundance. However, due to manmade activities to satiate his greed, much havoc was caused to Nature and the environment. Our riverbeds and water bodies have become easy carriages of all hazardous waste and pollution. Now, our water bodies are poisoned, and our rivers are gasping for breath. The land will be in peril if such manmade hazards are allowed to go in such a spree. It is high time that our dying rivers and polluted water bodies are revived, revitalized and rejuvenated. It shall be taken as a self-imposed responsibility of every citizen to redeem our water bodies. It is the need of the day to have abundant clean water in our streams and rivers and to have our water bodies and their surroundings to be clean and hygienic. Government of Kerala and Mission Haritha Keralam are in the forefront in a single-minded pursuit of conserving our water resources. The first step in the way of rejuvenating
our rivers is to ensure ample inflow of water in the rivulets, streams and canals which finally empty themselves into the river. They shall be desilted, replenished, cleaned, maintained and interlinked if required as the first step.
An abundance of water in the canals and paddy fields stand testimony to the prosperity of our Agriculture and water resources. Earnest efforts are undertaken to rejuvenate our rivers and other water bodies in every district under the aegis of Mission Haritha Keralam and Government of India with vigorous energy as they are the nervous
system of mother Earth. This flagship programme is a people-centric endeavour implemented through the Local bodies with the active participation of the masses as it is high time awake, arise and to join hands to protect our rivers. There shall be a reinforced spirit and a massive upsurge for protecting and rejuvenating our rivers and other water bodies. In this regard, all are invited to participate in the campaign for replenishing the rivers, scheduled to commence on December 8th 2018 being, the second anniversary of Mission Haritha Keralam.
